Set within the substantial grounds and curtilage of a Grade II listed house this, workshop and caretaker’s office forms one of a series of outbuildings for a private client. The building contains a large storage area for garden equipment, a office area, a small kitchenette and WC.

The design is derived from a simple parti-diagram which conceived a timber clad ‘wrap’ forming the end of a long brick garden wall. The timber framed building was pre-fabricated for speed of construction, cost efficiency and to achieve the more refined level of detail only achieved in workshop conditions. The timber cladding was constructed from Accoya®, a high technology, stable and sustainably sourced softwood - its narrow banding is designed to accentuate the horizontal plane which continues into the timber doors. Openings are emphasised in powder coated aluminum reveals.

The building is is located within a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) & SAC (Special Area of Conservation). This made planning and obtaining consents difficult and required working very closely with the Environment Agency, Natural England and local conservation officers to obtain permissions for many of the works.
