Design ACB has been appointed by Raglan Housing Association to develop proposals for an urban site in Southampton City centre.
Our approach has been to explore the idea of high density family housing within an urban environment and investigate how this provision could be integrated within large scale mixed use developments.
We have produced a vision that aspires to reinvigorate the existing poor quality urban realm, creating built forms that respect the immediate context and achieving a long term sustainable density. The proposal is considered as a catalyst for the regeneration of adjacent sites.
Our design proposes 39 units in a variety of housing typologies; 4 storey townhouses, 2 storey mews houses, 3 bedroom duplexes and 2 bedroom apartments. A 1.5 storey retail unit at ground floor has been designed to provide an active street level frontage. Amenity space has been a key consideration with roof terraces, gardens and balconies carefully positioned throughout the scheme.
